"The Lead Singer"
By Mike Defendant (2-18-22)
He looks at the crowd, he's standing on stage.
His goal is not for riches but to earn a living wage.
He's practiced for days for a 20 minute set.
When he's trapped in his ways, he's as good as he can get.
He tunes his guitar, ready to sing.
Hoping so hard that he doesn't break a string.
The songs last forever, that's how it seems.
Up in the spotlight, living your dreams.
Sweat drips down the tip of his nose.
His least favorite part of playing these shows.
He's distracted for a second but he quickly finds his place.
Back on track, perfected with a smile on his face.
The people are moving they're dancing their best.
His heart beat is pounding outside of his chest.
The shows about over, he made it this far.
That's more successful than being a star.
